Autumn Flavors for Pets: Safe and Healthy Fall-Themed Ingredients

As we welcome the autumn season, it's not just us humans who get to savor the flavors of fall. Dogs and cats can also enjoy some tasty and nutritious autumn ingredients. In this blog post, we'll explore fall-themed ingredients that are not only safe for your pets but also offer health benefits.

Pumpkins

Pumpkins are a great source of dietary fiber which is key for pets’ bowel movements. It is also rich in nutrients like beta-carotene, potassium, iron and vitamin C. As a low-calorie ingredient with high water content, it’s an excellent option to add bulk and help with satiety in your pet’s diet. Try using steamed (and cooled), pure pumpkin puree without added sugars or spices and introduce it in moderation to your pet.

We also offer some nutritious pet treats featuring this awesome ingredient:

Sweet Potatoes

Similar to pumpkins, sweet potatoes are a great source of dietary fiber. Rich in antioxidants, this ingredient is also filled with essential vitamins such as vitamin B6, Vitamin C, and Manganese. Sweet potatoes help your pet maintain healthy skin, coat, eyes, nerves, and muscles. This Fall, try boiling or steaming some sweet potatoes and add them to your pet’s food as a food topper or serve it alone as a treat!

Turkey

As we enter into the fall festivities and with the holidays around the corner, festive gatherings with family and friends are a must. A staple dish for many is turkey, with its savory and aromatic scent filling the house. While we know this delight for humans, it can be offered to our furry companions.

Turkey is a lean source of protein that makes it an excellent dietary option for both dogs and cats. It contains essential amino acids that support muscle growth and is rich in B-vitamins like niacin and tryptophan to aid in digestion and promote relaxation. This fall, share some of that delicious turkey with your pet. We suggest finding pieces that are free from bones, excess skin, and seasoning.

If you’re skipping the turkey this year, or sharing it all with your humans, try some of our turkey treats for your dog and cat:

Ensure that the seeds and core are removed and disposed of before feeding this nutritious fall fruit to your pet!
